Vision Sunday and Elections - February 11, 2018
What do you value as a follower of Christ? People will always be attracted to you for what you value, whatever that may be, good or bad. You may value integrity. People with integrity will most likely be attracted to you. Or, if you value gossip people who love to gossip will be attracted to you.
In a church like All Saints Dallas our vision “live in God’s presence, live out His love” will result in certain values that lead to change in behavior. Vision leads to values which leads to behavior change that leads to reflection in our budget. This Sunday, February 11, is Vision Sunday. In addition to our Annual Parish Meeting, the election of new board members and ministry and financial reports, the sermon will focus on the fear of the Lord and what God’s vision is for ASD, the values that represent this vision and the kind of behavior a transformed life looks like. In addition, we will give a Crossroads building update.
The election of new board members takes place every year. We have 9 board members at any one time and each serves a three-year term. Each year, three board members roll-off at the end of their three-year term and three new members are elected by the membership of ASD. One is a member of ASD if they have gone to the membership class, signed the covenant, and been confirmed or received at our membership service. Our bylaws state that we must have more people on the nomination slate then there are places to fill. So, for example, this year we have six candidates to fill the three vacancies of those rolling-off the board. These six candidates are (you can read bios for them here):
- Megan Carpenter
- King Crow
- Luke Madole
- Kirk McKinnon
- Diane Miller
- Mandie Peace
Members will vote for up to 3 candidates. The ballots will be counted on Sunday and results will be reported out next week. All are invited to attend either of our meetings which will take place after the 9 AM service and the 11 AM service in the church sanctuary. Only members can vote but all are invited to attend and hear how God has led us in 2017 and what we believe to be true for 2018 and beyond.
There is lots of good news to report both from ASD and the Crossroads Campaign for our new building.
Finally, let me remind you that this coming Wednesday, February 14, is Ash Wednesday. This day is the beginning of Lent, a particular season of renewal of our hearts, focus on spiritual disciplines which lead to transformed lives. The focus of our Lenten sermon series will be “come and see, go and tell.” On Ash Wednesday we will have three services, 8 AM, 12:00 PM and 6 PM at ASD with childcare at 12 and 6 PM.
Here is a prayer for ASD as we move into Vision Sunday, Ash Wednesday, and beyond:
“Gracious Father, we pray for All Saints Dallas. Fill it with all truth, and all truth with all peace. Where it is corrupt, purify it; where it is an error, direct it; where in anything it is amiss, reform it. Where it is right, strengthen it; where it is in want, provide for it; where it is divided, reunite it; all for the sake of Jesus Christ your son our Savior.” Amen
