You're Invited to Invite

Welcome back! It was great to see so many of you this past Sunday. This has been an eventful summer for many of us. Joys, opportunities, trials, tribulations, etc. Just like there are seasons in life, there are seasons in our church rhythms.

This coming Sunday, August 27, is Kickoff Sunday at both the 9 AM and 11 AM service. Hope you will make a special effort to worship with us and invite a friend. After the 11:00 am service there will be a time of further celebration for ASD and your guests at the Texas Ale Project in the Design District. This is to say thanks to God and all of you for making our new downtown location a reality. Lunch will be served. To RSVP click here.

The focus of my sermon will be taken from Matthew 16, the confession of Jesus as the son of the living God and how we join him in his victory over sin, death, and evil. We are the line of resistance against the forces of violence, greed, racism, oppression, slavery, etc. We are the resistance! Jesus is going to show us how we manifest that resistance and it is not with the tools of this world. I believe this sermon will continue to help set the stage for what God is doing at ASD now and for His call for our move downtown.

Most people are back from summer vacations and ready to move into the fall schedule. Therefore, this Sunday we will roll out our schedules for ongoing programs such as Alpha, Pastorates (our group ministry), and some interesting new items on the menu for our growing in maturity following Christ. Here is what you need to know:

  • Alpha– Every Wednesday at The Eberhard on Henderson beginning September 13 (6:30 – 8:30pm). An opportunity to explore life and the Christian faith in a friendly, open, and informal environment. No pressure. No follow up. No charge. Invite friends! To register, email alpha@ascdallas.org

  • Pastorates– Beginning the week of September 17. Pastorates are a place of connection for desired transformation. They are groups of 15–30 people who meet in homes every other week. Register here.

  • Adult Education– A new Adult Education class begins September 10 (10:20 – 10:50am) downstairs. The first teaching will be by Rev. David Larlee on “How to Hear God.”  Focusing on Scripture, experience, and practical opportunities, David will help us be open to and learn how to hear God speaking and revealing His will to us.

  • Equipping the Saints– A new opportunity to follow St. Paul’s encouragement in Ephesians 4 “…to equip the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ until we all attain to mature manhood.” This once-a-month gathering (9/14, 10/12, 12/14) will focus on prayer, worship, our calling both individual and corporate, and teaching on the values and spiritual gifts God has given us as we follow His call individually and as a body. Register here.

Meanwhile, there is lots of prayer and work going into the design of our downtown location. There will be updates and preliminary drawings this Sunday. Join us between the services to hear from the Crossroads Committee about what they've been working on this summer, and to see external images from our architects. It really is going to be an exciting time to show off what God has done this summer!

Lots to be, to do and more to come. Join us all next Sunday for our Fall kickoff.

Faithfully,

+Philip
